Being a member of ASSM has been incredibly valuable for staying connected with others in the same role across the country. I’ve found it especially helpful to ask questions, share resources, and exchange insights with fellow members—it's like being part of a small, tight-knit community that always has your back. The shared knowledge and real-time updates help me stay informed and confident in my work. Marisa Tualla, Arizona Department of Education I joined ASSM over 15 years ago. I had just started my role at the Colorado Department of Education and was completely overwhelmed and, frankly lonely. At my first ASSM meeting, I finally felt I had found my people, my family, and my confidence and joy in my work took off exponentially. I became an associate member about a decade ago, and my first priority each year is to renew my membership because the value of my membership far exceeds the cost of the membership dues. The listserv alone has become a critical part of my work life by helping me stay current within mathematics education and having amazing colleagues to reach out to with questions. Mary Pittman TNTP (formerly Colorado Department of Education) Even as an associate member, I still find ASSM incredibly valuable. While I’m no longer at the Illinois State Board of Education, the connections I’ve made through ASSM continue to support my work, whether through brainstorming math education trends, sharing resources, or collaborating on projects. One of the greatest benefits has been building close relationships with members, many of whom I now cross paths with in other professional spaces. That sense of community and shared expertise is what makes ASSM so unique and impactful. Samantha Leav Data Science 4 Everyone (formerly Illinois State Board of Education) |
